Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), attended the signing ceremony of a Heads of Agreement (HoA) for the utilization of commercial facilities between PT GMF Aero Asia and PT Bandarudara International Jawa Barat (Perseroda). The event took place on Monday, 21th April 2025, at the Domestic Arrival Hall, Level 1 of Kertajati International Airport, Majalengka.
The event also marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening the aerospace industry through the development of a sustainable Aerospace Park model at Kertajati. This collaboration involves the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk, and PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (Perseroda).
In his speech, AHY expressed optimism that the cooperation between the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), PT BIJB (Perseroda), and PT GMF Aero Asia Tbk to establish an aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility could position Indonesia to compete in the aviation industry.
“We hope this will become an aviation industrial facility that can compete within the region. We should no longer need to frequently send our aircraft to Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand. Our goal is to have competitive capabilities comparable to those countries that already have a well-established aviation industry,” said AHY.
He further noted that the existence of Kertajati Airport could drive economic growth in Eastern West Java, covering areas such as Cirebon, Indramayu, Kuningan, Majalengka, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran — regions that have lagged behind economically compared to the western parts of West Java, such as Karawang and Bekasi.
“If this can be further developed in the Rebana Metropolitan area, it will bring in new industries and economic growth to Eastern West Java,” he added.
Additionally, the development of the Aerospace Park, set to begin construction by the end of 2025 and targeted for operation in early 2026, is expected to become a milestone for new economic growth in Indonesia. AHY pointed out that the national aerospace industry currently contributes only 4.6 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
During the same occasion, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi affirmed the government’s commitment to building the Kertajati Aircraft Maintenance Center (KAMC) covering 84.2 hectares. This facility will be part of the larger Kertajati Aerocity, which spans an area of 3,480 hectares.
Minister of National Development Planning and Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, stated that with a focused effort on the development of aerospace and MRO facilities at Kertajati, Indonesia aims to become a key player in the global aerospace supply chain and move towards greater independence in the aviation industry.
