Efforts by IAMSA to Develop the Indonesian MRO Industry

The Indonesian Aircraft Maintenance Service Association (IAMSA) continues to strive to develop the aviation industry, particularly in the field of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) in Indonesia. As an association that oversees companies engaged in aircraft maintenance in Indonesia, IAMSA is consistently taking initiatives to drive the growth of Indonesian aviation.

IAMSA Secretary General, Freddy Fransiscus, explained that one of the efforts to develop aviation in Indonesia is by actively promoting collaboration between local and global MROs to continually enhance capacity and technical capabilities.

“Encouraging collaboration between local and global MROs to improve technical capacity and capability,” Freddy explained on Thursday (March 14, 2025).

In addition, IAMSA also organizes training and certification for the workforce to ensure service quality meets international standards. Furthermore, it develops partnerships with airlines and the government to create policies that are more supportive of the MRO industry in Indonesia.

The IAMSA Secretary General also explained that the association facilitates investment in MRO infrastructure, aimed at increasing the capacity of wide-body aircraft maintenance hangars and developing engine and component maintenance facilities.

“Facilitating investment in MRO infrastructure, for the enhancement of wide-body aircraft maintenance hangar capacity and development of engine and component maintenance facilities,” he continued.

Regarding the current development of the MRO industry, Freddy stated that Indonesia has significant potential for growth. This potential is seen alongside the increasing number of aircraft fleets and the need for more efficient maintenance services. With the right regulatory support, investment in technology, and human resource development, IAMSA is confident that the MRO industry in Indonesia can become a primary aircraft maintenance hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

However, IAMSA also acknowledges the challenges that remain significant for Indonesia in the MRO sector. Limitations in facilities, complex regulations, and dependence on imported components continue to be major obstacles.

“IAMSA is working to address these challenges by proposing more flexible policies, enhancing collaboration with international partners, and encouraging investment in domestic spare parts production,” he emphasized.

As an association playing a strategic role in Indonesia’s MRO industry, IAMSA continues to strive to enhance the industry’s competitiveness, tackle challenges, and build an ecosystem that supports long-term growth. With cooperation among stakeholders and appropriate strategic steps, IAMSA is optimistic that Indonesia’s MRO can become a key player in the global MRO industry.
