The Indonesian Aircraft Maintenance Services Association (IAMSA) was established to meet the evolving needs of Indonesia’s rapidly growing aviation sector, particularly in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO). The association emerged in response to the increasing complexities of supply chain challenges, regulatory frameworks, workforce development, and capacity expansion within the aircraft maintenance industry. According to IAMSA Secretary General Freddy Franciscus, the association plays a crucial role in bridging key stakeholders in the aviation sector.
“IAMSA serves as a platform that connects industry players, government bodies, and other stakeholders to foster a more competitive and globally recognized MRO ecosystem,” Freddy told AviaX on Thursday (March 14, 2025).
Strengthening Indonesia’s MRO Industry
Domestically, IAMSA actively facilitates communication between the MRO industry and regulators, ensuring that policies are supportive of sectoral growth. The association also drives investment initiatives, infrastructure development, and workforce training programs to enhance Indonesia’s global competitiveness in aircraft maintenance.
Beyond the national scope, IAMSA—founded on June 22, 1990—plays a pivotal role in aligning Indonesia’s MRO industry with international standards. The association is instrumental in strengthening regulations, improving service quality, and fostering collaborations with global MRO organizations. According to Freddy, IAMSA’s efforts have significantly bolstered Indonesia’s standing in the aviation maintenance sector.
“With IAMSA’s growing influence, Indonesia has become a key player in aircraft maintenance across Asia and beyond,” he stated.
A Growing Membership Base and Industry Representation
Over the past three decades, IAMSA has steadily expanded its membership, now comprising 32 MRO companies, ranging from major players like GMF AeroAsia and Batam Aero Technic (BAT) to mid-sized and smaller MRO firms.
“IAMSA’s extensive membership allows the association to represent a unified industry voice in shaping strategic aviation policies,” Freddy added.
IAMSA plays a critical role as an intermediary between industry stakeholders, government institutions, and international partners. The association maintains close collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Finance, Bappenas, and the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development. It also engages with airlines, MRO service providers, and international aviation organizations to ensure a favorable regulatory and operational ecosystem for long-term industry growth.
“IAMSA is committed to ensuring that Indonesia’s MRO sector benefits from a regulatory environment and industry frameworkthat support sustainable expansion,” Freddy concluded.
